Parks Department Updates Community on Off-Leash Area Process

At our February 25 community meeting, Rick Nishi, Parks and Green Spaces Levy Manager, provided background on the public process that began in 2006 and ended with a designation of an Off Leash Area (OLA) for dogs in lower Kinnear Park. FOLKpark met with Citizens for Off Leash Area (COLA) prior to our meeting and provided a facilitated discussion to learn more about OLAs at the community meeting.  You can learn more about the Parks update in the memo below that Parks distributed that evening.

Early Look at Conceptual Plans

"Conceptual", "draft", "preliminary" . . . how many qualifiers must we use to tell you that the plans we have posted are "works in progress" and "subject to change" . . . but please take a look here so that when you come to our meeting on February 25th you can ask questions and tell us what you think. More . . .

Join our active and vibrant community of lower Kinnear Park supporters in developing a plan to maintain and enhance this green oasis as a living asset for the Queen Anne community and greater Seattle.

FOLKpark is a local community group of residents and businesses that are working together to bring Lower Kinnear Park back to its roots as a natural urban forest and scenic communal gathering spot for friends and neighbors alike.

In collaboration with the community to revitalize this landmark urban forest, we are committed to:

  • Getting more people into lower Kinnear Park by increasing passive and active uses of the park and strengthening neighborhood connections to and within the park.
  • Sustaining lower Kinnear Park's natural setting as a unique urban forest offering visitors a retreat from the bustle of the city.
  • Telling lower Kinnear Park's story and celebrating its significance to Seattle's history.
