History

Kinnear Park is the first Seattle park property to have been cleared and planted. George Kinnear, the property donor, moved to Seattle permanently in 1874 from Illinois. He was so impressed with our beautiful city that he immediately purchased several large pieces of property on Queen Anne.

Kinnear Park has also served as both a community gathering place and concert venue. By 1910, the park had amassed an average weekly attendance of over 2,600 people.

Kinnear Park was approved as a designated Seattle Landmark by the City of Seattle's Landmarks Preservation Board on August 29, 2001.
