03.09.11 - Questions and Answers
1)What is the time commitment for civil or geotech at the FOLKpark committee meetings? Approximately 1 hour.
2)What are the interview questions? They have not yet been determined; The interview will focus on previous projects/experience that can be applied to lower Kinnear Park, "soft" approaches to landslide hazard and erosion control, any state-of-the-art techniques that you bring to the team.
3)Please describe what is the rain garden/wetland area? It is currently a large gravel surface that represents a low point and depression just north of the Tennis Courts. There is a natural depression in this area and initial analysis shows infiltrating soils. The master plan shows this area being transformed into a wetland/rain garden for possible stormwater management and educational opportunities.
4)How is the impervious area of the park changing? There are some concrete steps and "enlarged sidewalk" areas at Prospect Street entrance and Mercer Place entrance. That is the only anticipated increase (less than 1,000 sf max.) The majority of the park surfaces will remain the same. However under consideration is the surface treatment of the "north link trail," the North to South link from Prospect Street entrance to Roy Street entrance. This section may have a compacted surface treatment to allow bicycle traffic through-flow. This may be a simple compacted earth or a compacted gravel/mulch treatment yet to be determined.

11.13.09 - Vision documents #1-4 added below
11.16.09 - City disclaimer language added to RFQ; page 2.
11.16.09 - Question: Who is your Program Manager and DON liaison from Dept of Parks? Answer: Emily Fuller emily.fuller@seattle.gov with Pam Kliment from Parks and our DON Project Manager is Laurie Ames laurie.ames@seattle.gov. All questions regarding the RFQ should be directed to FOLKpark Chair, Deborah Frausto debi4kinnear@comcast.net .
11.17.09 - Question: Is anyone available to give a brief tour of the park?
Answer: Unfortunately, we are not able to give individual tours of the park during the RFQ process. We suggest visiting the Outreach tab on our website where major stakeholders are identified. Also, see the reports in the Archive section including the vision and mission work that the community has done to date. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to visit the park on their own.
11.18.09 - Question: What is the programming for the park?
Answer: The three main objectives for the park are Get More People in the Park, Sustain the Urban Forest and Tell the Park's story - how each of those elements get balanced through programming will be much of the public discussion in the three community meetings. The scope and funding of this RFQ is for a conceptual design plan that has community support. Implementing that plan through construction documents and then realizing its development through construction are additional phases that require additional funding not part of this RFQ.
Question: What area makes up Lower Kinnear Park? Answer: We are including all of the lower area that you access from either W. Roy or Mercer Pl including the tennis courts and the steps/trail that leads to the upper park area.
Question: What maps do you have of the park? Answer: The maps that we have received from the Parks dept are included in the reports below on our website. However, a great resource is www.seattleurbannature.org. Find the Queen Anne Hill & Vicinity Habitat map.
